Poirot is called in to investigate the kidnapping of three-year old Johnnie Waverly, the son of Marcus Waverly in Surrey. For several days prior to the kidnapping, the family received anonymous letters which threatened to take the boy unless 25 thousand pounds was paid.
The police who took little interest until a final letter stated that the boy would be kidnapped at 12 o'clock the next day. The following day, Mrs. Waverly is mildly poisoned, the boy taken, and a note is left on Mr. Waverly's pillow reading, "At 12 O'Clock." Can Poirot track down the culprit?
